S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) may be even more potent than a placebo in treating pulmonary hypertension in men.
In a study published online Friday, a study on mice treated with Cialis (Tadalafil), a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction, showed a significant difference between the two drugs, with the drug having the most effect.
The results of the study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, were presented at the American College of Cardiology Annual Meeting in San Francisco on April 27.
The study, called "The Power of the Study," compared the effects of three different drug treatments for ED, including Cialis, Viagra and Levitra, as well as placebo.
"ED patients with pulmonary hypertension (PPH) on Cialis were found to have a significantly greater improvement in their ability to exercise and to keep their blood pressure under control, compared to those on a placebo," the study said. "This finding aligns with the findings of another study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that showed that this effect was greater in men than in women."
According to the study, men who took Cialis twice daily for three months reported a significant improvement in their ability to exercise, and those who took a placebo twice daily reported similar improvement in the ability to exercise.
The study was the first ever published on the use of the drug in men, and it found it to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction.
